You might have seen some youtube videos gone viral showing small cute huge-eyed animals. They are called slow lorises. DailyMail has recently featured an article by primatologist Dr. Anna Nekaris explaining why slow lorises aren't pets. Yet they are being illegally sold at the markets in Indonesia.
Being nocturnal animals slow lorises see and move very well in the dark while during daylight they are slow and vulnerable. Since they are also venomous the traders cut off their teeth to be able to convince the purchasers that they can be kept as pets. The absence of teeth threatens the health of a slow loris and won't allow it to eat right.
The rise of demand in slow lorises as "pets" is causing the slow loris population decrease as they are also in demand for traditional medicine.
Slow lorises aren't pets, their bites can cause wounds to rot and an allergy reaction that can be fatal. Depriving them of freedom and teeth is simply cruel.
Please, spread the message to those who want to acquire a slow loris as a pet.
