Do you like compliments from the opposite sex? Don't you think it's just a way to impress you?

I found here a topic that men are not so romantic. Maybe it's true but I met lots of hyper-romantic guys! Maybe I'm too prosaic, but I think it's just a way to impress. Especially it concerns compliments. Very simple and genuine compliments are much better then "complicated" since they sound affected.
What do you feel about compliments? Do you like them?
