Men aren’t the only ones who have to worry about receding hairlines, rapidly thinning hair and bald spots – female hair loss is also more common than you might think. Hair loss could be do to a genetic component or result from taking certain medications, suffering from a medical disorder, or experiencing hormonal changes post-partum or during menopause. Most commonly, women’s hair loss is due to an inadequate diet and a poor hair-care regimen. So if you’ve started to notice that your hair is thinning out a bit or coming out in clumps, it’s time to read up on how to stop hair loss and damage with these hair-care tips…

No matter what the cause, female hair loss can be very devastating since hair is truly a woman’s crowning beauty. It defines who she is – a blonde bombshell, sophisticated brunette, fiery redhead, or dark-haired beauty. It’s the most versatile beauty element a woman has and it’s often the first thing that people notice about her.

So when a woman starts to lose her hair or experience thinning hair, it can be a serious blow to her persona, self-esteem and confidence.

You have roughly 100,000 hairs on your head and hundreds of thousands more all over your body. You lose about 100 hairs every day, which is a completely normal process that even occurs when you’re just sitting still. But if your hair is coming out in patches or you’re noticing more hair than usual coming out in your hairbrush or clogging the shower drain, it’s time to examine the possible causes and find out how to stop yourself from losing too much hair.

Stop Hair Loss with the Hair Repair Diet

If your hair is dry, dull, fragile, or falling out, the first thing that should be examined is your diet. The food you eat supplies specific nutrients to your body, which it then uses for countless metabolic and biochemical processes, including hair production and growth. Without the right nutrients, these processes can be hindered, affecting the health and appearance of your hair and contributing to hair loss.

In short, if you eat junk food and forgo healthy, nutrient-rich foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains, low-fat diary foods, and lean sources of protein, like beans and fish, your body is suffering under the pressure of trying to run like a well-oiled machine that has a tank full of the wrong kind of fuel. A gasoline car won’t run on diesel, and your body won’t run on junk food for very long either. This is also true for your hair, which requires specific nutrients, like b-vitamins and essential fats to grow healthy and strong. To fully understand the importance of a healthy diet for repairing damaged hair, read up on the everyday foods that nourish hair.

Medications that Cause Female Hair Loss
Certain prescription medications can cause your hair to thin or fall out, including ACE-inhibitors, anticoagulants, antidepressants, anti-thyroid drugs, beta-blockers, and even oral contraceptives. Some acne medications and diet pills, especially those containing amphetamines, can also cause hair loss. If you’re taking prescription medications, you should know the side effects of each medication you take, including your specific brand of birth control pills. Check with your doctor or pharmacist about your options if you are experiencing hair loss while taking a prescription medication.

Medical Conditions that Cause Female Hair Loss
Sometimes thinning hair and hair loss is caused by a hormonal imbalance or a serious disease. These conditions contribute to hair loss:

- Alopecia areata is an auto-immune disease that attacks the hair follicles on the scalp and causes extreme hair loss and balding. It affects over five million people in the U.S. and millions more across the globe.

- Endocrine (hormonal) diseases, such as hypothyroidism and diabetes, as well as kidney disease, liver disease and lupus can all cause hair loss. Hormone imbalances that occur naturally during pregnancy, post-partum and during menopause can also cause hair loss.

It’s impossible to say “don’t develop one of these diseases” so that you can stop hair loss, but the message you should take away from this is that if you’re losing your hair, it could be because of one of these conditions. Be sure to talk to your doctor to rule out disease as a possible cause of hair loss.

And I also found some Hair-Care Tips for Healthy Locks:

Your beauty routine also has a lot to do with the health of your hair. Women have been torturing their hair for centuries, but never so much as in this age of scorching hot curling irons, flat irons, blow dryers, permanent hair dyes, chemical straighteners, and perms. It doesn’t take much to damage hair, and in fact, something as minor as how much you wash your hair, brush your hair or how tight the bristles are on your brush can affect hair loss. Follow these hair-care tips:

1. Use a wide-toothed comb rather than a tight-toothed comb or densely bristled brushes. These types of combs and brushes make it more difficult to brush out wet or tangled hair and can pull hairs from their roots or cause them to break along the middle of the shaft, giving you frizzy hair.

2. Don’t wash your hair too many times in a day, which can strip hair of its natural oils and cause your strands to become dry and brittle and break easily.

3. Use a leave-in conditioner daily and deep condition once a week to keep strands hydrated.

4. Limit your usage of heat-styling tools, which dry out and damage hair.

5. Don’t get in the habit of styling your hair in tight braids, ponytails or buns, which puts strain on the root of the hair and can cause breakage and hair loss. Alternate these types of hairstyles with loose, free-flowing styles.

6. Bleaches, dyes, perms, and chemical straighteners all damage both the hair and the scalp and can contribute to hair loss. If you must chemically treat your hair, leave at least a few months in between each session.

7. Frequent exposure to chlorine can make your hair dry out and develop a green tint. Wear a swimming cap or keep your head out of the water when you spend time in a chlorine-treated pool or hot tub.

It’s up to you to eat right, treat your hair with care, know your medications, and get regular health checkups to ensure that you don’t have an underlying condition that could be causing hair loss. You can restore your hair to its youthful luster and strength, and stop hair loss once and for all.

my way out is finding the right shampoo. at least it helped me get my hair thicker and reduce hair loss. it's the matter of time and a series of shampoo tries but if do find the shampoo that's good for YOUR hair, sure some of the hair problems will gradually dispapear. :)

A MAIN CAUSE OF LOSS IS SHAMPOOS (and other harmful products we use). An alarming number have countless hair, scalp and even health harming harsh and toxic ingredients. Those recommended in the other answers have been found to be seriously hair and scalp harming.
See this site "Skin Deep Database" ( "Skin deep Database: A Feelgood Resource" tells you how best to use the Database) and "Not Just a Pretty Face." In the Database search box enter "Shampoos* " (the asterisk is IMPORTANT) and you will see which are the most harmful and others which are safer or only minimally harming. Then do the same for conditioners, etc.

Read this testimonial just emailed to me from: Mo Sratum(on Answers)
Subject: HAIR LOSS! OMG!
Message: Hi,
"You may remember me, Mo Satrum, the guy with the constant questioning about the hair loss, well I've been doing it for 2 months now and it's working wonders! My hair loss increased the first few weeks but it gradually slowed down and my hair is gradually going back to normal as it were before. I was always told that hair loss was genetic and you could do nothing about it, but you've proved everyone wrong and even I had my doubts before starting your treatment but I cannot describe how much you've turned my life around! Thank you I don't know where I would be without you"

In my teens I suffered severe loss. Then this natural, safe treatment stopped loss almost straight away and forced new growth.and completely regrew my hair. It has helped others on ANSWERS.

TREATMENT: Massage olive or any pure, natural oil into scalp, Extra virgin olive, coconut and grape seed work well. Then brush vigorously preferably using a palm held brush with short natural boar bristles.(Quite stiff bristles is best) You can see them on Amazon - they are known as military brushes.

Brush strongly so you feel it stimulating/irritating scalp. Do 90 /100 strokes each day at beginning building up to more and focus on where loss is. You may be apprehensive about irritating scalp - believe me I was too. But this is what will force new growth as it unplugs the blocked hair ducts that sometimes cause loss - they are the painful small itching spots.
As you brush some shedding and breakage may occur at first but will quickly stop as brushing makes hair better anchored and stronger. New hairs will appear.and will be weak looking and sparse. Keep up the brushing and do not be concerned if brushing uproots them, as they WILL re-appear even stronger. Then no matter how much you brush they will not be uprooted

My hair completely regrew on crown. Where receded at front regrowth was slower and sparse at first then each month it became denser. It demands perseverance week in/week out to get the same results. But the effort is truly worth it. I know I would have ended up as my grandfather, my father, my two younger brothers and an 18 year old nephew did - completely, or very nearly completely, bald. I truly know this treatment has disproved the genetics theory.

Coconut oil is also an effective way to stop hair fall. Simply massage it onto scalp. Also try to avoid alternate styling that involve putting tension on the hair and scalp, like braids and ponytails.

Hair loss is the biggest problem today but many of way and you can take biotin vitamins that really helps, and also make a aloe vera shampoo, buy a aloe vera plant and cut the green peel of the plant off.And inside the plant you will see a clear gel and that you will use for your hair, the aloe vera gel. put the aloe vera gel in the blender and blend it all together after that you can pour some shampoo into the mixture i personally use the Suave Aloe Vera & Water Lily shampoo and after i mix it all up i pour the shampoo mixed with the aloe vera back into the shampoo container. I've been using this every time i wash my hair and it really improving my hair growth a lot.
