how superstitious are you? when a woman falls pregnant, even if she has never been superstitious before, she may fall under the pressure and become superstitious now that she's expecting. some realte it to the fact that we can hardly influence the baby's development and just want everything to be ok with the child - so if it takes being superstitious, let it be so

there are lots of different pregnancy and conceiving superstitions. it's up to you to either believe them or not. reading about different pregnancy superstitions worldwide is quite entertaining, though :)

Pregnancy & conceiving superstitions from around the world

* If a mother's feet are colder when she's pregnant, she's pregnant with a boy; if her feet are warmer, it's a girl.

* If a mother's urine is bright yellow, it's a boy.

* A mother should avoid taking baths to prevent germs from swimming up her vagina and affecting the baby.

* Horse chestnuts or potatoes carried in a mother's trouser pockets are good for piles.

* Until recently, many people thought that if a pregnant woman consumed strawberries or port wine, the baby would be born with large red or purple birthmarks (also called strawberry marks and port-wine stains)

* In Guyana, it was thought that a baby would be born cross-eyed if its mother wore high heels while pregnant

* In China, harelips were thought to be caused by the pregnant mother eating rabbit meat; in Mexico, it could have been because she was out and about under a full moon.

* Just by staring at the moon or viewing a corpse, it's said that a mother can doom her unborn child to mental problems (lunacy) or an early death

* Don't have an owl living under your roof - it could cause a miscarriage

* If you're carrying high it's a girl and if you're carrying low it's a boy.

* Pregnant women shouldn't raise their arms over the head because the umbilical cord would wrap around the bbay's neck.

* Castor Oil can get labor started.

* In China, an expecting mom that rubs her stomach too much may produce a spoiled child.

* Also in China, the first object a baby grabs signifies the child's destiny.

* In Germany, newborns laid first on their left side will grow up to be clumsy.

* In Malaysia, if baby kicks a lot, it's a boy.

* If a pregnant woman is mad at someone, her baby will end up looking like the person she's mad at.

* Allowing a rat or a weasel to leap over a pregnant woman's belly will cause a birthmark. (WTF???)

* If a pregnant woman drinks from a cracked cup, the child will have a hare lip.

* To ensure a healthy baby, it is best to conceive at midday.

* To promote its intelligence a pregnant woman should read as much as possible.

* Supposedly, if you have heartburn a lot, your baby will be born with a lot of hair.

* If you eat with a pregnant woman you get a headache, or you become lazy, or sleepy.

* Pregnant women can't make fun of or criticize other people lest it comes back on your baby.

* If your pregnant wife leans or walks over you, you'll feel what she feels – nausea and headaches.

* Do not bend forward from the hip while pregnant or your baby will choke on the thumb she’s sucking.

* Do not wear high heels during pregnancy or your baby will “fall out.”

* Sleeping next to a fan will suffocate you and your baby.

* You must eat pots of seaweed soup, which aids in postpartum recovery.

* Eat lots of fruit if you want a pretty baby.

* In Turkey, if a woman steals something while pregnant, the baby will have a birthmark in the shape of the stolen object.

* In China, a pregnant woman should have a knife under her bed to protect their unborn babies from evil spirits.

* A woman should refrain from using glue throughout her pregnancy to have an easy labor.

* Slavic women who dream of conceiving a child, come to touch a pregnant belly.

* If you don't bite the babies nails off for the first year of life they will become thieves.

* In Turkey, if you crave sour things while pregnant, you're pregnant with a girl, if you crave sweet stuff - it'a boy.

* Also in Turkey, if you wear bracelets you baby will have marks around the wrists.

* If a baby is due near the new moon (not the full moon), that it will wait for the day of the new moon to be born.

* Cats suck the breath from babies, take away their vitality

* You can drown your unborn baby if you swim or take a bath

* If your baby is born on a Sunday, evil spirits will not be able to harm it.
