having any kind of addiction is horrible for both the addicts and their families. people growing up in such an unhealthy environment often end up having the same problem as their folks - alcohol, drugs, prescription drugs, or some kind of other addiction.

really hoping that you didn't experience any of this in your childhood, because if you were growing up in the family of drug or alcohol abusers then you must know how these celebrities feel

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore says her first memory of her dad, the actor John Barrymore, was when he picked her up and threw her against a wall at age three. Her alcoholic dad abandoned Drew and her mother exactly when Drew herself checked into rehab for alcoholism and cocaine addiction at the early age of 13. “I couldn’t figure out how to deal with him,” Drew told People.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron has never made a secret out of her teenage years when her mom was sent behind bars for kiling her dad when Charlize was only 15. Her dad was an alcoholic and often abused his mom when drunk. so Theron's mother killed him in self-defense.

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne, recovered alcoholic and drug-addict herself, was growing up in the super unhealthy family environment with her dad, rocker Ozzy Osbourne famously abusing drugs and alcohol throughout her childhood. “It’s been well known that I’m an abuser of drugs and alcohol for the best part of my life,” Ozzy told “Larry King Live” in 2004.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry's dad was an alcoholic. She once said he would abuse her mother and sister growing up. “I grew up with domestic violence, so I have a special place in my heart for women and children who suffer,” she told People magazine in 2007.

Adele

British singer Adele's dad was an alcoholic. He split from her mom when the future star was only 3. From his interview with The Sun: “I was putting away two litres of vodka and seven or eight pints of Stella every day. I drank like that for three years. God only knows how I survived it. I was deeply ashamed of what I’d become and I knew the kindest thing I could do for Adele was to make sure she never saw me in that state. ... I hit the bottle so hard that I am pretty much oblivious to anything that happened to me for three years. I was way, way below rock bottom by then. ... I was in the darkest place you can imagine. I saw no way out. I didn’t really care whether I lived or died.” “All I could do was drink and I’m so, so ashamed of myself for that. I was in so much grief that I couldn’t see past myself and how I was feeling. I was not there for my daughter when I should have been and I have regretted that every second of every day to this moment now. It tears me up inside.”

Lindsay Lohan

(like father, like daughter....)

While Lindsay was growing up she saw her dad, Michael Lohan, use drugs. In one of her interviews Lindz confessed that she tried heroin because she knew her father had done it. “I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad. I was terrified of it,” Lindsay said. “But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like. ... Mind-altering substances are so dangerous.”

so, it's like all Michael's fault!

Shia LaBeouf
Attached Image: shia-labeouf.jpg

Shia's dad, Jeffrey LaBeouf, a Vietnam vet, was addicted to both cocaine and heroin and sold pot. “[At] home, I’d watch my father going through heroin withdrawal. That kind of thing makes you grow up fast,” he said.
when making his Disney show “Even Stevens” Shia paid his dad to come with him on the set and stay off of drugs! “It was never ‘Drugs!’ It was never like that for my family, which helped me because I never had a curiosity, it was never closed off. It was always out in the open and it was always explained to me. I’m so grateful for that.”

Shia is a recovering alcoholic.

Audrina Patridge

(it's just my guess) Audrina's mom is sometimes seen walking around drunk... so i'm thinking...

Khloe Kardashian's husband Lamar Odom has confessed he's father is a drug addict. 'My father’s a heroin addict,' Odom says. 'I had my mother around until I was 12 years old when she passed away and after that my father wasn’t around. I witnessed things that a 10-year-old definitely wasn’t supposed to see… It’s hard for me to speak up on it and get it through to Khloe because she grew up so different.'

My mother is an alcoholic. I spend my time praying for her to leave or be killed in some kind of accident. It is a horrible thing to go through and it is very tough as a teenager to be so aware of everything that is going on. I often feel guilty and rude and selfish for thinking these things. She has been abusing me for close to seven years and I have spent that time (since I was ten) protecting my little brother. For this reason he does not understand why my relationship with my mother is so strained and painful. Although this is something that one never recovers from it is nice to know that it is possible to come out on the other side. That although I have no-one and nothing of myself left that I still can go on to bigger and better things and maybe even help other children going through the same sorts of things at some point. Thankyou for your posts. :)

you're an incredibly strong person, you've been through a lot of things and you're still kind and caring and loving. i don't think you're selfish in any way - your mom is (and that's really sad).

I'm twelve right now and my dad has promised so many times that he would stop drinking. When I was eight I wasn't allowed to see him for three months because he got really drunk when my mom wasn't there and when she got back he was really angry and beat her up. I locked myself in the bathroom and called the police but he ran out the door. My mom, my sister and I had to spend the night at the police station because it wasn't safe to go home. To this day he will promise that he will stop and then a week later he will come home four hours late and will smell like booze. I think that the toughest part is putting on a brave happy face for school and act like everything is okay at home. Im just really scared that I will end up like my dad (like father like daughter right) seeing all of these successful people that grew up in my situation is such an inspiration! It really is like a light at the end of a dark tunnel!
